By Tara Bitzan, Executive Director, Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce Throughout 2019 the Chamber asked its members and the community to have a “neighbors helping neighbors” mentality. We wanted to foster that mentality on the little things as well as the big things. Support each other in business, do what you can to help each other be successful, and so on. But today we are seeing the big picture of the importance of neighbors helping neighbors. A fire has devastated our thriving, vibrant downtown, destroying several businesses.
Now is when we will see the strongest evidence of a community rallying together with neighbors stepping up to help their neighbors in very big ways. The fire only happened hours ago but people are already donating food, clothing, and personal items to those who lost their homes above these businesses. Conversations are already being had about possible fundraisers and community efforts to help all of those suffering from this devastation. It’s during times like these that people really rise to the occasion, put aside their differences or their competitive spirits and join together as one united community. The big question right away is what can we do to help? Stay tuned… there will be many ways you can help those impacted by this loss. We will keep you informed of all those opportunities as they come along. Often, the need is great to help out right away. Right now, the immediate needs are being met. But these business owners, employees, and residents will need a helping hand for a long-time to come. So let’s all rally around our neighbors long after the smoke clears. Comments are closed.
