Copper Trail Brewing Co. opened in 2016 in a small storefront and later moved to downtown Alexandria. It became the fifth brewery in Alexandria's history - 70 years after the fourth closed its door. It offers different craft brews on tap from sours and ciders to IPAs and stouts and more. In 2022 it added 205 Grill, a collaboration with Pike and Pint Grill, and offers a variety of poke bowls, soups, salads, tacos, sandwiches, and more.
Donations sought for a new Christmas light display. By Tara Bitzan, Director, Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce A group of local volunteers who call themselves “The Friends of Christmas” are seeking financial donations to establish a new walk-through Holiday Light Display at the Legacy Gardens in Alexandria. The display would be open to the public free of charge the day after Thanksgiving through January 1.
To make it happen, they need to raise a minimum of $35,000 before August 1 of this year. Donations of any amount are appreciated. Marketing recognition will be given to donors at the following levels: SHINING STAR - $5,000, GOLD - $3,000, SILVER - $1,000. All funding will be used for the purchase of display pieces. Any other expenses, such as ground maintenance, electrical costs, etc., are being secured through in-kind donations and volunteer labor. Donations payable to Friends of Christmas may be sent to 206 Broadway, Alexandria, MN 56308 or dropped off at the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce at 206 Broadway. ABOUT THE EFFORT The Friends of Christmas formed as a small group of community members who shared a dream of having more community gathering opportunities surrounding the holidays. The Christmas in the Fort and Downtown Lighting event hosted by the Runestone Museum annually the day after Thanksgiving has become a tradition for many. The group wanted to build upon that event and create more opportunities in the weeks leading up to Christmas. In 2022 they organized the Lights on Broadway Holiday Light Parade with more than 50 entries and established a free skating rink at Big Ole Park along Second Avenue, with free skates available for use. This year, the goal is to launch a walk-through Christmas light display as well as a Christmas Market on the first two Saturdays in December. For more information, call 320-763-3161.
