Vikingland Band Festival

On Saturday, June 28, 2008

Bring your lawn chairs, or throw out a blanket on the front lawn of Jefferson High School to enjoy this informal musical performance.  The Jefferson High School Marching Band will be in concert with a stand-still performance of the summer marching music: “Mary Poppins”.  The Honor Band for Sunday’s Vikingland Band Festival Parade, the Stabekk High School Marching Band from Oslo, Norway, will present their concert music.  This band consists of 60 students from ages 11 – 18.  They have traveled to Alexandria to help Minnesota celebrate their sesquicentennial and to provide for their students a cross-cultural experience with American band students.

Concert begins at 6:00 pm on the front lawn of Jefferson High School.

(In case of inclement weather, concert will be held in the gym)

On Sunday, June 29, 2008 the sound of music fills the streets of Alexandria the last weekend in June when over 2,000 high school band musicians arrive to compete in the Vikingland Band Festival. On Sunday afternoon, twenty marching bans from throughout Minnesota and the Upper Midwest perform in what is known at Minnesota’s biggest summer marching band competition. Alexandria’s own Jefferson Marching Band plays host to the competing units. The completion is intense and the music is unsurpassed. Throw out a lawn chair along Broadway for a parade you are sure to remember. The Parade begins at 1:30 pm.
