Economic Development

The Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission combines economic efforts to strengthen the wealth and stability of the area communities. Collaborating to maximize the area’s potential for business are the following communities: City of Alexandria, City of Garfield, Alexandria Township and LaGrand Township. Supporting partnerships and appropriations are contributed by Douglas County and from the Townships of Carlos, Hudson, and Lake Mary.

In carrying out its mission to drive the economic wealth of the area, the AAEDC concentrates on four major areas of strategic objectives:

Community—Collaborating in community efforts that strengthen the economy by creating and retaining jobs and expanding the tax base with respect to natural resources.

Business—Maximizing the area’s potential for businesses, jobs and economic opportunities to include economic diversification, retention and expansion.

Resources—Enriching the financial and personal resources in building new revenue centers to include loan funds, financing sources, and avoiding duplication of efforts.

Organization—Developing a professional economic organization to serve as the lead entity for coordinating and implementing the area’s economic development effort by promoting partnerships, leadership, funding and growth.
